Michael Morpurgo, Twist of Gold

This is my favourite book written by Michael Morpurgo. Sean and Annie O'Brien have no choice but to escape from the potato famine in Ireland, but they must leave their weak and dying mother behind. They go in search of their father in America. They must protect the only left treasure of the O'Briens, a golden torc. Despite their hardships, they find people willing to help them everywhere. But they also find that the trip there is just the start of a perilous and difficult adventure. Will the children get to their father safely? and will they ever see their mother again?
My favourite character is Annie because she is forever optimistic about the future. She 'is the oil' to everyone's lamp, though she does not know it.
