Art!!!
Ok, so this theme is new. I've done poetry and book reviews, so why not art now..? I'm going to let you be a critic to some of my dreadful paintings, please be honest!!!
'The Secret Garden' by Frances Hodgson Burnet
The Secret Garden is a book with amazing imagery. I have a beautiful hardback slipcase edition with watercolour pictures! This book is about a youn...
Planets Speeding
This poem was written as War Poetry (Week 3) homework. I am not too proud of it and I think it could be better. It features a four syllable refrain (In poetry, a refrain is a word, line or phrase that is repeated within the lines or stanzas of the poem itself), which is 'Planets speeding'-the name of my poem!
My Home Leave
'My Home Leave' features an AABBCC rhyme, except in the first two lines of stanza two. It is written from a soldier's PoV (Point of View), during his leave on the Homefront. I wrote this poem as bookclub homework. (Lesson 2, War Poetry). It emphasises life on the Homefront during both WWI and WWII.
Yummy Green Veggies
Veggies! I know that not all of you will like all veggies, including me! I love most veggies, but some of them are a no-no for me!!!
The poem has an AABB rhyme and 4 stanzas. This was written as homework for Mum's Poetry Class. It is supposed to encourage children to eat their vegetables.
The Proud Old Bull
This Ballad (a short poem suitable for singing that tells a story in simple language), written by me, is intended to be humorous. It should also have a noticeable moral. It has eleven stanzas (it took quite some time!) and an ABAB rhyme. I aimed at about ten syllables per line so I could add more description. Hope you laugh!
Limericks-Making you laugh!
Limericks- these poems are typically five lines long, the first, second and fifth lines usually rhyme, as do the third and fourth. The first line of the poem traditionally introduces a person- the main character. Last of all, and most importantly, they should make you laugh. 🤣
The first three limericks were written in late 2019, while the last three were written in early 2021. You can see the poetry classes have helped a lot! 😊 Let us know if you laughed when reading any of these, and which ones!
Michael Morpurgo, Twist of Gold
This is my favourite book written by Michael Morpurgo. Sean and Annie O'Brien have no choice but to escape from the potato famine in Ireland, but t...
Lockdown
I completed this poem in the midst of the third UK lockdown. 2020, the year of social distancing, was hard. I think the whole country felt it. The year was hard for all of us, especially those who felt it more. I also wrote this poem to give a lighter mood to people who do feel Covid-19 and lockdown most.
The poem has rhyme, but in places the rhyme is not as regular, for example the first three, instead of the first two, rhyme. The poem has 20 lines so I believe it is the longest poem I have written so far!
Horses
No rhyme. One stanza. This poem may look short or small but it implements one of the most difficult devices in the world of literature: Iambic Pentameter. (See 'Believe'... A sonnet, for more info). Unlike 'Believe' this short poem does not break Iambic Pentameter anywhere. It does not have rhyme, yet it has rhythm and this is because of the use of Iambic Pentameter.
Midsummer's Morning
This poem, also written before Mum started up the classes uses a slightly different ABABCC rhyme pattern. The rhyme is not fully consistent yet you can still feel the rhythm and beat. The last two lines of each stanza are much longer than the first four lines in the stanza. Even though it is not summer, I posted this poem because it is slightly humorous and right now we all need some humour.
