Believe... A Sonnet

Believe... A Sonnet
This nonsense poem that I wrote follows the pattern of a Shakespearean Sonnet.* I'm afraid I did break Iambic Pentameter (Pentameter means "consisting of five measures" and iambic is the rhythm which words in the line are measured, in small groups of syllables called "feet") in every verse though! This is the first sonnet I've ever written. I did it as a homework piece for poetry. It was quite difficult but I also enjoyed it. I used an ABAB rhyme pattern as used in a classic Shakespearean Sonnet.
*A sonnet is a poem with 14 lines that has a particular structure. In a Shakespearean sonnet, the first line rhymes with its 3rd line, its 2nd line with its 4th line and so on. This set of four lines is called a quatrain. The last two lines are a couplet (a pair of rhyming lines).

Pan Man

if you want a bit of humour, this is the poem to read! Have a laugh at the antics of the pan man! I wrote this as homework for my poetry class. the repetitive short lines embedded in the stanza are called refrain. there is again an AABB rhyme scheme.

Library

The library is one of my favourite places to be because of everything mentioned in the poem and more! The library is quiet and relaxing. I feel at home in any library because I feel at home with books! I wrote this poem the same time as I wrote 'How Big Are We?'

How Big Are We?

How Big Are We?
The picture of the Laniakea looks a bit like a feather. The red dot is the Milky Way and there are thousands of millions of Laniakeas that make up the universe. I also wrote this before I started my Mum's classes so my syllables are not all exactly regular. It has seven stanzas and also an ABAB rhyme structure that is broken in the last stanza. However, I do think that the regularity of rhyme in most of the stanzas reflects the organisation and structure of the universe, so I think the poems rhyme structure symbolises the order of the universe.

The Moon

The Moon
'The Moon' is one of the first poems I wrote this year. I focused on rhyme. I like rhyme because it creates flow and makes the poem easier to read and more rhythmic. I wrote this poem before mum started the poetry classes so I didn't know a lot about poetry. Due to that, I did not implement any other rhythm except for an easy AABB structure of rhyme.
