My Home Leave
'My Home Leave' features an AABBCC rhyme, except in the first two lines of stanza two. It is written from a soldier's PoV (Point of View), during his leave on the Homefront. I wrote this poem as bookclub homework. (Lesson 2, War Poetry). It emphasises life on the Homefront during both WWI and WWII.
Yummy Green Veggies
Veggies! I know that not all of you will like all veggies, including me! I love most veggies, but some of them are a no-no for me!!!
The poem has an AABB rhyme and 4 stanzas. This was written as homework for Mum's Poetry Class. It is supposed to encourage children to eat their vegetables.
Limericks-Making you laugh!
Limericks- these poems are typically five lines long, the first, second and fifth lines usually rhyme, as do the third and fourth. The first line of the poem traditionally introduces a person- the main character. Last of all, and most importantly, they should make you laugh. 🤣
The first three limericks were written in late 2019, while the last three were written in early 2021. You can see the poetry classes have helped a lot! 😊 Let us know if you laughed when reading any of these, and which ones!
Believe... A Sonnet
This nonsense poem that I wrote follows the pattern of a Shakespearean Sonnet.* I'm afraid I did break Iambic Pentameter (Pentameter means "consisting of five measures" and iambic is the rhythm which words in the line are measured, in small groups of syllables called "feet") in every verse though! This is the first sonnet I've ever written. I did it as a homework piece for poetry. It was quite difficult but I also enjoyed it. I used an ABAB rhyme pattern as used in a classic Shakespearean Sonnet.
*A sonnet is a poem with 14 lines that has a particular structure. In a Shakespearean sonnet, the first line rhymes with its 3rd line, its 2nd line with its 4th line and so on. This set of four lines is called a quatrain. The last two lines are a couplet (a pair of rhyming lines).
