My Home Leave

Once in a blue moon, when I come home on my leave
And my family look out for, so when they receive
My letter, they're waiting for me. The homefront
if more peaceful than the battle filled warfront,
Except when the bombs come, utter chaos reigns
from above, the bombs drop from enemy planes.
We all live in fear, we all live in horror
Of the roaring beasts from the air, exploding
The factories, mines. Destroying the earth
And while bombing us, they are full of mirth.
But on my home leave, my family are there
And even great gran meets me on her wheelchair.

  • Sorry, the line ‘we all live in fear, we all live in horror’ is supposed to be the beginning of stanza two. It wasn’t working when I edited it.
