Michael Morpurgo, Waiting for Anya

This book by Michael Morpurgo is set in World War Two. In Lescun, France, Jo's village is occupied by Nazi soldiers. Then Jo discovers that Jewish children are being transported over the French border by hiking through the mountains near his village. All goes by plan until the soldiers suspect the villagers and start patrolling the mountains and searching the houses. Soon, Jo finds out that the children are trapped. He decides to help and hatches up a plan to smuggle the children over the border. But the slightest mistake could get them all killed... Morpurgo creates a vivid image of hope, fear and faith in his novel 'Waiting for Anya.'

This book was published in 2017. It is one of my favourite books. My favourite character is Benjamin. He patiently waits for his daughter, Anya, in the hope that they will escape together from the Nazis. I like Benjamin because he helps the Jewish children and is a kind-hearted man who objects to persecution and war.
