'The Secret Garden' by Frances Hodgson Burnet

The Secret Garden is a book with amazing imagery. I have a beautiful hardback slipcase edition with watercolour pictures! This book is about a young, rich and sour English girl called Mary who lives in India with her parents, until they die of a plague that took over India. In her whole house of servants and butlers, maids and cooks, she is the only one that lives. She was taken to her Uncle's six hundred year old house, in Yorkshire, on the moors. Misselthwaite Manor is a huge place, full of secrets.

Mary unlocks a hidden, and once captivating but now dead garden in the grounds and reveals a place of enchantment that begins to weave its magic on her and those around her.

She makes friends with the maids brother who knows every creature on the moor. Together, can they bring the garden back to life? And why, in the first place was the garden locked?

Mary's uncles son- her cousin, lays in Misselthwaite Manor, ill and unable to walk. He is kept a secret in a room known only to his father and a few maids. Can Mary help him get better?

Read The Secret Garden to find out!
